DOKU.TECH 2014: Open : Security : Community : Content!
DOKU.TECH held its first edition on August 19 – 22 2014, in Prizren, Kosovo. At its first edition, DOKU.TECH was an outstanding tech conference at the well-known International Film Festival Dokufest. DOKU.TECH explored and challenged the social implications of technological innovations through connectivity, content, openness and security. Taking place in the beautiful city of Prizren, Kosovo, the event gathered reputable speakers, observers, explorers and builders from around the world to talk about open knowledge, digital security, privacy, social entrepreneurship and business. Event offered a unique and inspirational way to participants to have the opportunity to listen and challenge speakers during events and participate in lively discussions during the programme. They were gathered to share knowledge and experiences, discuss issues related to our internet freedom, digital security and surveillance, open knowledge. Media theorists, activists, entrepreneurs, hackers and journalists from around the world shared their experiences in the form of lectures and talks. Therefore, during the first edition, participants had the chance to explore pro and contra ideas and concepts on how to use technology to empower us in our everyday struggle for better society.
The first edition had more than 500 participants’ international&local experts, during more than 30 events, talks, discussions, workshops and parties. The discussions were held under the main theme “Open, Security, Community and Content”. Some of the main topics were: “Openness is the best defense – some thoughts on Twenty-First Century institutions”, “Creating and running Hackerspaces”, “Yoga in technology”, “Creating resilience in communities through digital mapping”, “Free cultural works and creative commons” and “Security Awareness”.
