DOKUTECH at Tech Park: A Two-Day Celebration of Innovation and Technology
On October 23-24, DOKUTECH transformed Tech Park into a buzzing hub of technology, creativity, and collaboration as part of October Tech, an initiative launched by the Kosovo government to champion digital innovation. Over 1,000 tech enthusiasts, leaders, and young learners joined the event, diving into two days filled with interactive exhibits, keynote talks, panel discussions, and networking opportunities—all reflecting DOKUTECH’s commitment to empowering the tech community and building bridges between knowledge and practice.
Day 1: Keynote Insights and Gaming Innovation
Day 1 kicked off with an exciting Game Exhibition where game developers from previous DOKUTECH Game Jam editions showcased their creations. Participants not only explored diverse, inventive games but also interacted directly with the developers, getting insights into the creative processes, challenges, and technology that brought each game to life. This hands-on experience highlighted Kosovo’s growing game development scene, setting an engaging tone for the rest of the day.
After the exhibition, the focus shifted to the main stage for the official opening. Abetare Gojani, Executive Director of IPKO Foundation, led the welcoming remarks, followed by speeches from distinguished guests, including Luan Dalipi, Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister’s Office; Getoar Mjeku, Deputy Minister of Economy; and Liza Gashi, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora. Their messages underscored the importance of events like DOKUTECH in strengthening Kosovo’s digital landscape and supporting young talent and innovation.
The day continued with three inspiring keynote speakers, each offering unique perspectives on the future of technology. Nitasha Sarin, founder of Global Life Group, opened with a talk on “Humanizing Tech: A Call to Action,” emphasizing that tech should merge innovation with empathy, addressing societal issues rather than simply driving profit. “True progress in technology,” she said, “comes when we merge innovation with empathy, building not just for profit, but for the betterment of society.”
Franziska Hoffmann, founder of Elvates, echoed this sentiment, discussing how gender collaboration is essential in advancing AI and leadership. Comparing this balance to a musical keyboard, she shared, “Imagine a keyboard where men are the white keys and women are the black—we need a world that plays both in harmony to create a truly balanced and advanced society.” Her call for inclusive innovation resonated with the audience, emphasizing the value of emotional intelligence in technology.
Anila Hyka Smørgrav, a Digital Transformation Business Partner, concluded the talks with insights on responsible innovation, stressing that digital transformation must uphold company values, prioritize truth, and embrace sustainable development. Day 1 wrapped up with a cocktail and networking session, allowing participants to connect and exchange ideas in an informal setting.
Day 2: DIY Innovation, Policy Discussions, and Digital Advocacy
Day 2 attracted an even broader audience, with participants ranging from middle school students to young adults. The day opened with the DIY Fair, showcasing innovative projects from organizations like the Finnish School of Kosovo, RIIT-K, Universum, UBT, Digital School, Astronomy Club of Kosovo, and IPKO Foundation’s Innovation Hubs from Gjilan and Lipjan. This interactive showcase brought to life the spirit of curiosity and creativity among Kosovo’s youth, highlighting their ability to innovate and inspire.
A special highlight was the visit from H.E. Albin Kurti, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, who toured the DIY Fair, engaging with the young creators and their projects. His presence underscored the Kosovo government’s support for fostering a culture of innovation, especially among the younger generation, and showcased how events like DOKUTECH are pivotal to the country’s digital future.
Following the fair, the audience gathered for a thought-provoking panel discussion on “Policy Making and Economy in the Age of AI.” This panel tackled critical questions around AI’s role in governance and economic growth, discussing how AI can transform public services, boost the economy, and reshape policy-making. Panelists included Teresa Crawford, Chair and Board Member of IPKO Foundation; Donjeta Sahatqiu, Tech Policy Advisor; Ariana Musliu Shoshi and Arta Fejza, members of the Kosovo Assembly; and Edmond Hajrizi, founder of UBT. Together, they explored how leaders can ensure AI becomes a force for positive societal change, underscoring that “The future of AI is here—now it’s about making sure it works for all.”
The day also featured a masterclass on “Digital Advocacy and Activism” with Driton Goleshi, Head of Digital at Hallakate. In this hands-on session, participants delved into the power of digital platforms for advocacy, learning essential tools and techniques to amplify their voices online and create impactful campaigns.
